Default RPG's

There are some things in this world that should never be messed with! Smoking in a bar, old muscle cars, the formula for Coke, etc.. The one thing in gaming that should never be screwed with is the old RPG formula.

As some of you may know, I have been without a PC for a couple few weeks and during that time, I played some Lost Odyssey and Last Remnant on the 360. WTF? These are not RPG games that I recall from back in the day! These are games calling themselves RPGs but clearly are not.

Final Fantasy was a great series and a great example of what an RPG should be. Think about it. When it first came out, you ran around the first part of the story for seven hours or so, then went into the world, where you could go anywhere, then got a boat, then an airship to explore parts of the map you would never be able to get to whether you went or not. Every FF game followed this pattern. The open world was a big draw for me. Then came FF-X and X-2. Why are those so bad? They took away the open world! You were confined as to where you went. Away went the 'I will spend 50 hours playing so I can get a ship to get to that island in the corner of the map' and in came 'We don't want to design an open world anymore, so just use these load screens to fight in a confined space.'

Since then, it seems everyone else has done the same thing. Lost Odyssey and Remnant have basically the same thing going on. You don't get to walk, ride, or fly to a place on the map, you 'warp there instead. Whos lazy ass idea was this? I don't want to have a town placed on the map and just warp there. I want to walk, sail, or fly there dammit and get the experience points on the way! I want to go to places I am not supposed to to get things that will help me with fights that I will be doing when I follow the story line. FF used to know how to do this.

Let me give you ppl that are making an RPG a hint, never, ever, ever, have the 'sections' in and RPG! The world needs to be open. ALWAYS! No exceptions.

The older Final Fantasy games set the bar for RPGs and everyone needs to follow that!
This go and load crap needs to go with a quickness! OPEN WORLD!

I don't mind innovation. I really don't. Oblivion is a great take on an RPG. You are free to do whatever the hell you want to, go where you want, and when they show the map, you can actually walk there if you want to! Does Odyssey or Remant have this?? Noooo!

I completely blame FF-X and FFX-2 for this load of crap. If they would have followed the tried and true formula, none of this other shit would have shown up!

For the love of God! Please, oh please, bring back the RPG's that are good!

I tried Fallout 3. Didn't really do anything for me. Stopped playing after three days.
