I used to have a Megadrive/Genesis Mk1, 32x and Mega-CD with 2 massive 6-button arcade joysticks. I had nearly all the 32x games and CD ones... My favourites were SonicCD, especially bonus stage, Thunderhawk, Doom32x and Starwars 32x. Still to this day very good games if you can find the right software.
I had some bad FMV MegaCD titles though. Sewer Shark, Sol Feace, Ground Zero Texas, Jurassic Park, Microcosm, Night Trap and its sequel based in a hotel... which was so bad I cannot remember the title. |

but one should also remember the good stuff like Lunar 1 and 2, mension of the hidden souls and such. Ecco for the music ofr its time. Sonic fake 3D bonus stage was awesome. i got the 32X and the only game i liked was that starwars thingy. it came at a bad time with the saturn around the corner. What I didn't like was megaDirve 2 and segaCD 2. those tiny versions were so ugly. the original had a sleek design in black that looked like a CD player with that CD block underneath. NeoGeo cartridge sys was the best looking consol to date. one flat sexy peice with one button on it. good times

I loved my MegaDrive with the headphone socket. I had it connected out through my stereo and the Streets of Rage games chip music sounded awesome through it. For some reason Sega decided to remove that from the MegaDrive2. God knows why, its not as if it cost a lot of money.
Another couple of good games on the 32x. RiStar, which had absolutely amazing animation and gameplay. It was supposed to be their successor to Sonic, but it all happened a bit too late. By that time the Saturn had failed and the Playstation had Wipeout and the market had moved up a few gears. I still play them, buy through emulation, but many are far superior games in terms of actual gameplay then many of my AAA PC titles. Its just odd that I spend loads of money buying more powerful upgrades and stuff for my PC, but I am always likely to play at least 2 or 3 games a week on an emulator. At the moment I have 5000 MegaDrive ROMs on my PC, but only Half-Life2 and GuildWars for the PC! |
