Not homemade, its a very professional job and it is like playing a SOR game on the SEGA, but with better sound. To be quite honest, its what SOR3 should have been.
I think they have pulled the codes and GFX from the SEGA ROMs and made their own game. It is very polished.

HOLY CRAP! This is just like on the ol days with MEGA DRIVE. And you can set the gamepad too. works great with the 360 controller but only per analogstick. still great game. to bad there is no saving...like most old consol games you have to beat it in one session

My crappy machine is still downloading. but when I get my fingers/tentacles on this, it will be definitely oldschool.
Loved the smartbomb thingy in SOR1, where you call the police car and that guy with the "panzerfaust"/bazooka appeared...

This is the best version yet. It has multiple paths through the game and its own storyline. The pace is the same as SOR3, because you characters can sprint and roll and you also have the nice touch of being able to control your jump-kicks midflight. Axel's uppercut also sounds/feels mean as hell.
Also of note is that you can have an AI controlled 2-Player game, which helps on some of the boss fights.
Its a little bit buggy, but I have completed it without a hitch on a number of occasions. You must play it if you had it on the SEGA.
