and he warns her. this game includes lots of death.. stealing cars.. picking up prostetutes.. and things like that.. and she kindly nods her head.. and buys it.. so then she goes home.. watches her son play it.. and then starts a fucking petition or something, pardon my language but i am pissed, and tried to ban the game.. after all the warning..[/b][/quote]
LOL! That's one of the stupidest stories I've heard yet, thanks for sharing it, lol! She could've as easily started a petition saying "I'm a dimwit" and got people to sign it, would probably be the same result
Anyway, I'd have to say that while I think the ratings and age restrictions are necessary for the obvious reason that too violent of a game can influence in a bad way a young kid's psyche, some of the ratings ESRB issues are just preposterous... I mean, I don't know about the USA, but in Canada almost the only movies that are rated 18+ (M) are the porno ones; while movies suggesting sex, containing erotica, drug and alcohol use and HEAVY violence are rated 14+, or at most 16+. At the same time way too many games get the M rating (I could take Soldier of Fortune as example - such movies as Black Hawk Down and many others contained exactly as much if not more graphic violence than SOF, and were given a softer rating), while movies portraying the same thing don't get hit as hard. And who could explain me why games get harsher ratings than movies? I don't think a real explanation exists for this question...
So well, I'd love to see the ratings system stay the way it is, but some sort of new, fairer standards for the actual ratings to be introduced, taking as an example the movie ratings. It's not like I personally care myself, being over the age of 18, but I still think youngsters should get it "fairer" than we did

u could argue that in games we do the killing, and it's made fun. whereas in films we watch someone else do it.

I think there are some m rated games are just great. GTA is a good example of this. It shold be up to the parents as to whether their child plays the game, assuming they can't get it themselves. I let my 3 yr old son play GTA VC for hours on end. He can't read so he can't really get far in the game, however he does steal cars and beat the crap oout of anything. When he does steal a car at least he says thank you lol. As a parent I see no harm in him playing the game since he doesn't hit, swear, or try to steal anything! It is retarded to ban a game because your child is playing a game explicitly made for adults. I could go off on this for hours but the coffee is going right thru me

Postal2 is an exemple of a M-rated game.
Can't wait to play that!
