Something I never expected, we all know that the 2900 XT simply shouldn't have what it takes. Especially versus the faster hardware of the 8800 GTX this simply doesn't sound logical. PC magazine is a well respected and objective source, so it's highly doubtful they messed with the results.

All benches have been done in Vista so the only logical explanation would be that Ati has drivers better at handling that os.

Yawn! DAAMIT fanboys grasping onto the dust and embers of ATI past. Quite simply Gazz you know its not the cards that are more powerful here, it is the drivers. Those test results are inaccurate and out of date. When were the Nvidia results taken... Oh yes thats right April!... Did ATI even have a DX10 product in the market in April? Show me an article with 8800GTX on 163.11 Vs Catalyst 7.7 in single card and multiple card configurations and then tell me who beats who!

... Oh yeah and BTW you probably know the truth and just posted this thread to annoy me you git!

Ofcourse I know it was the drivers. I said so in my opening post.

I do remember 2 guys who were convinced that Nvidia's drivers are better then ATI's even after I told them most of the people responsible for the Nvidia drivers left for the competition. I can't seem to remember their names right now, but who cares about fanboys anyway

In all fairness I must say that it seems that SLI performance for the 8800 seems to be lower then in single mode, must be the great Nvidia drivers some people here are yapping about. Great to see cards that are eight months older still have such huge issues and still have people blindly defending them. Anyhow, here's a pic with some benchmarkresults underlining the bad sli performance:

We will adress the Albers issue on MSN one day, that whole deal is so messed up. There have been rumours floating around that Albers had gotten a worse car then Sutil so Kollin Colles could sell him for a high price to Toyota and once that failed he set up a plan to get rid off Albers to put Winkelhock in the Spyker for some attention. Winckelhock races for Kolles DTMteam and is under contract by him. That whole mess stinks Whether you like Albers or not, you must admit that it's weird that a driver with great credentials in former classes and who beat all of his previous teammates by a longshot, to get beaten by a rookie. The pitstop error was ofcourse just stupid as hell, but all drivers make mistakes. Hamilton once crashed his car after refuelling in the pits in F3000 if I remember correctly.

EDIT: I luv you too AKADeadly :francesco:

Hah! I didn't ever say Nvidia drivers are excellent, I just said it was unfair to compare a July ATI driver to an Nvidia April driver, considering the improvements that have been made since April.

BTW, FYI, Albers was sacked because he cannot drive.

Oh and you are right about SLI of course. It is crap and is why I am holding back on my SLI upgrade. Oh and talking of upgrades I just ordered a nVidia Quadro FX3450 for my work PC! Nice!

PC Magazine is not a rag to be trusted. Never have been and I even
have a subscription. It should actually be called Cell Phone and Gadget
Magazine. I find it odd that my Vista PC with a C2X Q6700 @ 3.0Ghz
w/ (2) 8800GTX's at stock speeds can hit 14,000 with no problem. But
    they have a C2X Q6800 @ 3.73GHz w/(2) 8800 GTX's that can only
score 12,000. There on the take and it's funny how they never supply
an actual link to any of their scores.

No, All previous reviews show that the 2900XT 1GB is not the mosty powerful card in Single-Card configurations. AMD say their performance part (Vs 8800GTX/Ultra) is their Crossfire Configuration. So to prove the point they made sure that the 2x1GB 2900XT CF with Catalyst 7.7 (July Drivers) was ran against the 2x 768MB 8800GTX on drivers dated April, where SLI wasn't running due to a problem with Vista!

    Very dubious results indeed.

The true performance would be to review the 2x2900XTs against the best Nvidia cards, which would be 2x8800GTX Ultras with the latest BETA drivers for both. Now I can tell you straight away that the Nvidia config would absolutely bugger the AMD cards!
