JCVD
So, I just got home from the Fantasy Filmfest. I went to see JCVD and tomorrow I gonna see MY NAME IS BRUCE there.
I'm not a big Jean Claud Van Damme fan. Actually I'm not even a small fan of his movies. When I was 13 I liked them but then I also liked Knight Rider and A-Team. But with JCVD he got the best movie I've seen this year, next to Iron Man and Dark Gay Cowboy.
This movie is a dark comedy in the style of Anders Thomas Jensen. This is NOT a action movie in the sense of Bloodsport or Death Wake. I never thought of Van Damme more than the typical brawler and for the last 5000 years he kept providing me with evidence to my believe- till now. This guy is funny. I mean funny funny. Not american "stupid go dumb" funny, but good classic olschool funny.
Even the beginning of the movie rocks; it's a one cut action scene with extreme low budget feel to it. You know, the ones where you throw a granate and the bad guys falls to their death after the explosion has already ended. This was just awesome and a nice intro to a great come back movie or even great gran final of his movie career.
The main story is about Van Damme having trouble with IRS and fighting for custody for his daughter. He goes back to belgium for some wuiet time. There his image is sorta of a Hero Icon for the folks. His career went down the shithole. He is broke. And to get the actually movie started; the bank can't give him his money.
I cant tell you to much because i don't wanna spoil it for the ones who wants to see it. All I can say is that EVERONE should go and see this movie. It's, imo, Van Dammes' best performance, ever.
And who wouldn't wanna see JCVD as JCVD in a movie titled as JCVD
here are some trailers and making of: JVCD
MY NAME IS BRUCE
Well, just saw this today. it was quite funny in the campbell kinda way. I'm a Bruce Campbell fan but i gotta admit it is more about BC himself than his movies. MNIB was much better than I expected and Bruce is back as we all know and love him.
This movie is cheap. I mean cheap cheap. you know the guy that sells rotten apples for 99cent a kilo and if you buy 2 kilos you get 10 bucks in return? that's about the cheapnest level of this movie production cost. And i love it.
It starts out awesome the middle part was awesome and the end, while it seem like they had only 5 minutes left to make one, was uber awesome.
now most people who dont like/know BC probably will think "WTF dude, this is crap" but what do they know anyway. This is brainless b-movie entertainment at it's best.
Even the 2 country marshals with their banjoys in between scenes are awesome.
It falls rather in the "Bubba Ho-Tep" and "Man with the Screaming Brain" side than Army of darkness. i say this because most e´people i know who pretend to be campbel fans never seen anything alse but AoD and they always expect something like it. AoD was probably the only campbel movie with a budget over 5 USD and made it into the mainstream cinemas.
Well, all in all It was highly enjoyable movie with good laughts and lotsa Campbell. i would recommand it to all his fans and/or B-movie fans. I just wouldn't say it's for everyone
I doubt "My Name is Bruce" and "JCVD" will have a wide release anywhere, exept JCVD in france and belgium. This is truely sad when you think of how many shit hollywood crapola we get every week. I hear JCVD got a puplisher in the US fo limited release so if you get the chance then see it. I dunno how big the release My Name Is Bruce is in the US but i can imagin you find it in some more theatres there.
PS: why do people clap and cheer in movie theatres? What do they expect to happen then? maybe the actors on screen comes down shake their hands and making some pics? STOP FUCKING CLAPPING AND CHEERING. The actors can't hear nor see you because it's a fucking IMAGE PROJECTED ON A FUCKING SCREEN!!
Noone gives a fuck if you liked that particular scene very much. in fact They would like you to SHUT THE FUCK UP, so we can watch the movie without your approval of greatness.
