And don't go disrespecting my codings

I brushed up alot since 2 years ago and I use Semantic code + Validated Strict XHTML and CSS 2.1.
And I dropped PHP as a whole and if i ever went back to something like that i'd rather use RoR

The site would only have a 404 code on it then.
Edit: how's suse working out for you GM? I am currently exploring Mandriva 2009 which is awesome. Use it as my workstation. Also handy because it does not glog up windows which is purely gaming now. No more slowdowns because of other installed crap. I have Linux for that and that one runs like a freaking dream. New KDE interface is also a beauty

Yeah I used Mandriva back in the day when it was called Mandrake. The French sure now how to build a distro or two. Mandriva 2009 off USB Flash is something to behold. Just launch from inside Windows and it boots so fast and performance is really good.

Personally I still use SuSe, because I have no reason to change it. I have all the guchi elements installed, like Compiz Fusion, but the core OS is a couple of years old... at least.

I did try Ubuntu (HeartyHeron or something) on an old HDD, but tbh for me it is too basic. There is some fun to be had tinkering with linux getting it working and I dont want someone to do it for me, without asking. I can see why they do it, but for me thats one of the mistakes Microsoft made post Windows 98.

Hardy Heron, soon to be sequeled by Intrepid Ibex. I have heard rumors of drastic changes like better hardware support (ATI cards for example) and I suppose I will discover some other new stuff as well.
Doing something without asking is not something I experience with Ubuntu actually, from the moment I started (6.10, Edgy Eft) until now (8.04, Hardy Heron). For example updates are not being downloaded until you are giving permission (including the typing of your password). Though I can imagine that certain programs you installed via a "loose" .deb file from the web, have an auto-update function enabled (just a guess, btw).

You see my friend this is where linux has gone wrong with Ubuntu and its ilk. Unless of course I missed something out when installing Ubuntu? If you use a 'proper' distro you choose what to install, not just how it runs. Go and grab a copy of Mandriva, Redhat, Suse or even Fedora Core and do a custom install. This choice/freedom to setup the OS as you determine is what makes linux so appealing for many technically minded people. You could have some say in Windows 95 and 98, but Microsoft have since removed this choice and enforced people to install components like Internet Explorer and all the stuff that bloats the latest Windows into needed 2GB of RAM and 15Gb of HDD space even before you start using it!!!

My Suse install is tiny. With a 3D KDE GUI, Browser, Office Support and all types of media playback options it barely touches 1Gb HDD space and 115Mb utilisation of RAM upon boot. Whats your Ubuntu utilisation?
