    Default I'm having an issue with Quake 4. Pwis Help :x

    Well ive never had any problems running a game before, like doom 3 , warmonger, CoD4 NFS: MW, etc.
    but Quake 4 is going on my nerves x_x
    everytime i try to run it it gives a texture compression error

    In my second comment are the full details shown on the Quake 4 error console.


    My Pc Specs:

    Sony Vaio Workstation
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bits
    224 mbs video memory
    Processor Celeron D 3.06 Ghz
    1 GB RAM (ya quite low i know, but it can run the other games smoothly idk why xD)

    I am no expert but to me it looks as if your game is trying to use OpenGL as the prefered graphics option to run the games Video. The same thing happened to me with Return to castle Wolfenstien.
    If I am correct you need to find a default config.cfg for Quake 4 on the internet abd replace it with yours, this is what i had to do for Rtn to Wolf.
    The other choice is to open your config.cfg in you Quake 4 Directory and edit it manually. Sorry I cant remember what you have to replace OpenGL with on the appropriate line, but Google might be able to tell you.
    Other than these two, does Quake 4 come with a safe mode like Rtn to Wolf?. If it does try launching the game in safe mode and changing it from OpenGL in the Settings.

    What Video Card are you using?

    OpenAl refers to your sound card but this eroor is only happening because your Video card is banging its head against the wall.





    All this assumes my analysis is correct.
    I know some ATi cards suffer this sometimes.

    According to the sys requirements I found, the game works with directX 9.0c. So I don' t understand why it uses openGL instead (openGL is an alternative for DirectX).
    Anyway, if you are able to tell us what integrated graphics chip you got in that laptop, we may be able to check whther it is openGL compatible.

    oops, you are right. That mistake of mine probably was caused by my problem-solving attemps at another forum. Much laptops over there, so I have the word to auto-activate sometimes due to its frequent use.

    Yep, I did, admin mode / safe mode / compatible mode WIn XP / running it windowed mode etc.

    What else can i try? :x
