Default Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPod with gagging order

Apple attempted to silence a father and daughter with a gagging order after the child’s iPod music player exploded and the family sought a refund from the company.
The Times has learnt that the company would offer the family a full refund only if they were willing to sign a settlement form. The proposed agreement left them open to legal action if they ever disclosed the terms of the settlement.
The case echoes previous circumstances in which Apple attempted to hush up incidents when its devices overheated.
Ken Stanborough, 47, from Liverpool, dropped his 11-year-old daughter Ellie’s iPod Touch last month. “It made a hissing noise,” he said. “I could feel it getting hotter in my hand, and I thought I could see vapour”. Mr Stanborough said he threw the device out of his back door, where “within 30 seconds there was a pop, a big puff of smoke and it went 10ft in the air”.

I am always amazed why people buy their inferiour crap, when the competition has way better products.

That's what you get when puting in non-original "brandless" batteries that promise longer battery life. ;)

Serious again: certain Sony music players of the walkman series are said to be better. Play .wma for sure and maybe even OGG Vorbis (both better than that LAME (is an acronym) and Fraunhofer IIS crap codecs (.mp3)).

I personally own a Creative Zen as a mp3 player. Anyway, it's not hard to surpass the Ipod as an mp3 player, since it is pretty bad at what it does. It (the Ipod) just has a better perception value then any other player from the competition.

As far as I am concerned most people I know in the gym that own an ipod can keep it close to their balls and I'll have fun watching it explode then

I will never own an Ipod, becuase they over priced and are more of a pain than anything else cause they have to be fat 32 etc etc... I just my fone to listen to music... but I really would only use the Ipod as an extrenal hdd so I would just go for an external hdd... cheaper and bigger ( capacity wise)

The revenge of the nerds theme song would seem fitting
