I've been away from the forums for a couple of weeks due to hardware problems.
Right now i am sitting with a 166 mhz pc which barely can run winamp and the internet side by side.

I used to have a 800 mhz pc but it went dead a while ago (power supply problems) but instead i bought some new stuff so I could build my own computer.

    Here are the specs:

    AMD Barton 2500+ (1833 Mhz)
    Soltek Nforce2 mainboard
    512 MB DDR-ram (pc2700)
    G4-ti4200 128 agp 8x
    two hdd-drives
    plextor and dvd-player

All of these part work individually but refuse to work together.

When I turn my computer on, everything starts but stops working without turning anything off. Everything keeps running.
And on my monitor is this message: No Signal, check pc and such stuff.

    And i've tried several monitors.

    Any ideas???

Im guessing what you meant to say is, you start the pc and everything gets power, but nothing shows up on the screen. This could be for several reasons:

    1. The motherboard is defective
    2. The CPU is defective (let it run for a little bit, turn it off, take off the heatsink and check if the core is warm)
    3. The RAM is defective (if you use two sticks then try using only one, then the other, if the first didnt work)
    4. The cmos needs flashing (make sure you read the manual, but try taking out the battery, wait about 10 seconds, and reinstall it. On some motherboards you also need to move a jumper, so check the manual)
    5. The powersupply is defective (try a different)
    6. The video card is defective, or not entirely in the AGP slot (try pushing it farther in if you're not sure)

You say the components work individually, but this should hopefully give you a few things to try...

    Good luck

When you turn the computer on, does it beep? If not then chances are it's not POSTing which is a sign that something is wrong with the HW installed. Did you install the hardware yourself? Maybe you put a little too much pressure on the core of the CPU when installing the heat sink. Maybe the CPU and/or motherboard were defective when purchased. Maybe the RAM is dead. There's a lot of possibilities.

Like Interman said, it COULD be that the video card isn't it properly, but usually it'd beep a lot if that was the case. Oh and all the things he outlined are valid too, of course.

its most definatly your video card, one of my mates had it too, no signal then the monitor shut down and pc shut down aswell.

ask for a new video card.

Any of the things Interman listed could cause the same results. There is not enough information to decide it's the video card.

    1. Power supply is working.
    2. video card WORKS!! (i guess)
    3. i've cleared the cmos many times.
    4. ram is working. i have two sticks, both working.
    5. cpu works.

me and my friend have tested everything many times.

    and nothing does beep.

So as soon as possible i'm going to test my videocard and mainboard again.

I appreciate your help guys. See ya!

p.s.: the computer i'm working on now is a piece of :pooh:

If you aren't hearing any beeps then I would be casting a suspicious eye on the mainboard.

Yeah, from reading this page, i'd say it was most probobly the mainboard, as the CPU is probobly fine - and you seem sure, the GPU you say 'WORKS!!', so id say get a replacements board, judging on the fact that you cant hear any beeps, if in doubt, check your hearing aid is working
