I would love to share one underdog mod that has been lurking around the webz for sometime now. If your familiar with the settlers franchise, and you loved the settlers II when you were a kid, you should really check this out. Its called Return to the Roots, and its a remake of settlers II with new stuff, like HD resolutions, clean and stable online play and much more.
Just give it a try, despite the old graphics and if you played it before your nostalgia meter will go off the charts and if you want to play online to play with someone go the irc channel they provide on the website!
The community is small however, and even though the developers are german, almost all of them speak English, they are just lazy

Is there a point in making better graphics mod for this game if there is Settlers 2: 10th Anniversary which is just like Settlers 2 but with modern 3D graphics?
