    Default My House

Some of you may know this from reading the chatbox and others will not, but here in the next two to four weeks I am going to start building my house.

Just to clarify things, I am getting the house through Habitat for Humanity. I had to go through a lot of things and put in 225 hours on other houses to get to this point. Of course, I have to put in another 225 hours before I can actually move into to my house. It has been almost two years since I started this process and it is really close to being finished.

The yellow outline is sorta my property line. It is not exact, but you get the idea. I will be adding pics to this thread as things progress. Plus, I thought I would let you guys know now as when the construction starts, I will not be here near as much until I am in the new house. Which should be October at the latest.

"Our house, in the middle of our street..."

Out of curiosity, is the whole neighborhood there related to HFH, or just some other neighborhood? It's pretty large looking from what we can see.

Nope. Our house will be the first HFH house built there.

I thought that Habitat for Humanity was aiming at the people in the poor and BRICS countries. So I guess your area has been struck by a (natural) disaster or something?
Not to offend you or whatever, I am just curious about that.

Of course my Radeon HD 4850 can handle it. 1280x1024 FTW!

There are certain criteria you have to meet in order to have them build a house for you. Things like how much you make, certain things on your credit, where you live now, etc.. I qualified. I am not rich by any stretch and there was no way I could afford a new house without them. I don't take any offense to you questions. I am just excited that by Sept. or Oct. I will be in my new house.

So its eems it is located on a slope and with a forest behind. A forrest behind the house means you will have a lot of birdies in your backyard!

Yeah, slope seems to be quite steep. You need to build a wall to prevent landslide and something to remove water because there will be a river during a storm.

I have some more questions (my sister is building a house too, so i'm interested in this topic ;)
Is electric heating a standard? What is cost of electricity in US (1 kWh)?

The slope is steep! Especially in the front. I do believe they might level it out a little though and there will be a run off for the water. Electric or gas is standard, luckily for me though, Habitat only uses electric. I hate gas! The electric will be cheaper in the new house than the one I am in now as the new one is insulated everywhere whereas this house has none! So, it will probably cut my electric bill by $75.
