Yes, it is true! Starting with Driver: San Francisco, Ubisoft will implement Uplay Passport. This is just like the rest of that 10 dollar crap; if you buy the game new, you get a code you have to enter to play the multiplayer part of the game. If you get it used or buy it from a buddy, you have to spend $10 to get a code. I have shared my feelings on this before and they have not changed! I hate this crap! Sure, if you buy all your games new, none of this is a problem, however, if you are like me and can't buy every damn game I want to play new, you have to pay more to play what is on the damn disc!
Now, I rent games for the consoles all the time because I don't play many games on the consoles online. Mainly because I like the 360 and you have to pay $60 a month just to play MP and then another ten on that because the publishers don't like used games! Well, tough shit! I like to buy used games because they are cheaper. And I don't buy a used game the same week that it came out. I usually buy used games weeks after they are released.
I have read peoples comments on many of forums and I see a lot of people seem to think that used games are bad because the devs don't get any money. This is bullshit! The first person that buys the game new is where they get their money! Let's say I went out and bought BF3 for the 360 on release day. (I would never do that as BF on a console blows) It gives me that stupid code to go play online and I play for about a week and then decide it sucks. Well, I have every right to go sell the damn thing. EA already got my money and if I didn't like it, I want my money back. I don't go to Gamestop just cause I don't like them so, let's say I sell it to a buddy for 30 bucks because he wanted to try it but didn't want to pay 60 for a game he is not sure he will like. With this 10 dollar crap, he could play the SP, but the MP part would be blocked unless he paid and he shouldn't have to! I already gave the money to EA and therefore if I sell it, they are not losing anything because it is the same copy and takes up the same space on the server because I left and someone else took my place.
There is no reason for any of this crap! If you want people to always buy new, try lowering the price by 10 bucks, or offer something of value to the customer, or include a code for future DLC cause we all know we get screwed on that as well! Taking away something that is on the disc because you don't like used sales is just an awful way to deal with customers. There is not one other market on the planet that I can think of that charges consumers extra when buying used!
Ok. I am done with my rant for now.![]()
