    Default Wii U

I think it is about time to have a Wii U topic in here since Nintendo released a pre-E3 video yesterday, which you can still watch here:

In it they reveal the final look of the Wii U Controller:

As you can see, they added analog sticks in place of the circle pads, which they should have. It also has a near-field communication (NFC) reader which is used to scan things into the game. I think that could be nifty, and it also has a TV control button which can switch back and forth from the TV to the Wii U. Not to mention, if the Wii U is off the controller can be used as a universal TV remote.

The Wii U will also have a Pro controller:

Looks a little familiar doesn't it?

That is all I am going to post on the Wii U until Tuesday when they have their E3 presser. Feel free to add the things I didn't though.

So, it seems like the Wii U had a bit of a lackluster launch. A day one 5GB system update, technical issues with some of the launch games, the realization that user accounts are tied to the console they're created on and can't be transferred (only deleted), and mixed reviews for some of its launch line up.

Giant Bomb put up quick looks for New Super Mario Bros. U, ZombiU, and Nintendo Land. Yesterday they did a live launch marathon which should go up as separated recorded versions at some point (full archive of that stream is here if you don't mind skimming over 7-hours of video).

    *Edit*

The rest of the Quick Looks are going up: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheReal.../videos?view=0

My plan was to get a Wii U when Lego City Undercover was released, but may have to pick one up earlier due to the fact it can play Blops 2 with one person on the TV and the other on the tablet. That is awesome! If Nintendo starts releasing more games that can do that, I will be all over the Wii U.

I read this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...p-restrictions on Eurogamer this morning and really laughed! Essentially Nintendo is saying that because they are based in Germany, they have to follow the German law requiring anything that is rated 18+ can only be sold after 10 pm in Germany and this is the reason the rest of the EU/UK has to abide by it. Does that make any damn sense to anyone???

I get that to sell things in Germany, you have to follow their laws. Fair enough. But the rest of the EU shouldn't have to abide by those laws as they are not part of Germany. If this is the way it works over there, then Sony, MS, or any other business that is based in, let's say Britain, should be able to sell M rated games in Germany at any given time because the law of the land where they are based allows it.

It seems to me that Nintendo is just being lazy as no other console has had this issue that I know of.

Between this, even though it doesn't effect me, and the DRM the Wii U uses, accounts tied to the console, not real sure I want it all that much. Not to mention there is not really any games I care about out for it at the moment.

Now that the Wii U is out, what do we think of it?

I have no desire to get one at the moment. Tis not the price either as I would happily spend 350 for one just because you can play some games on the gamepad. That is just awesome.
The problem I have is that there are no damn games for it. Suuuuure, there is SMB, but to me it just looks like the same old game from the Wii rehashed to fit the Wii U's controller. Not to mention, I am pretty damn tired of the 2d SMB of late. Isn't it freakin possible to have a new Mario 256, or Mario Galaxy 3, or a Mario in 3d at all? Then there is all the games that have been out for all the other platforms for damn near a year with a slight touch to make them gamepad compatible. That is not good enough!

Lego City Undercover should have been a launch title. That alone would have been enough to entice me to get it. But noooooooo, it will be released somewhere in Spring when I could careless about the Wii U.

Aside from the lackluster launch titles, one would have thought that Nintendo would have got their shit together with the online stuff and store. Did they? Nope!

Nintendo has some of the greatest games ever made on their systems and they could have made all of them available for the Wii U. Did they? Hahahaha! That is like asking Sony to put ps2 games on the ps3! Day one they should have had every SMB, Chrono Trigger, Mana series, Zelda series, Metroid series, pokemon, 1080 snowboarding, crusin usa, donkey kong, excitebike, paper mario, aerobiz, etc.. The list could go on forever! I know that they want to show off their new stuff, but there really is nothing there that will satisfy a die hard N freak! However, you put the back catalog of N games on the store and holy shit! There would be people busting down doors to get one! And they would not even care that everything is locked to that console!

Yeah! You are locked to the console! What kinda bullshit is that? All would be forgiven though if you could purchase ALL the Nintendo games from the past though. (even at those God awful prices you charge)

Nintendo might have released before Sony and MS, but if they want to beat them, they had sure as shit better get on the ball real fast or they are going to be screwed faster than a person trying to buy a 24 oz coke in NY!

I received a package Saturday evening. It was just a brown box with my name and addy on it with no return address. Didn't think anything of it cause I just figured the wife bought me something for our anniversary. Opened it up and to my surprise, there was a 32gb Wii U in it with a note. Can't tell you what the note says though. Yes, I know it is very odd but those are the rules. Checked my emails to see if I missed something, I did miss something but it had nothing to do with the Wii U. So, I still have no idea where it came from. After a little bit, I decided not to worry about it and play

It came with Nintendo Land and a black Wiimote as well. Pretty nifty! Gotta say, it is smaller than what I thought it would be and I really love the gamepad. I knew, from reading around that the Wii U needed a pretty big update, so I fired it up! Had to make a new Mii. No biggie, took a pic of myself and let the system have at it. I swear to you, I think it gave me the biggest nose possible. lol Anywhoo, after that was the update. It actually only took a half hour. Of course the next day there were a couple more smaller updates.

Haven't really played a whole lot yet due to other things, however I have watched my son play and it seems pretty damn nice. Not sure if Nintendo Land will be the equivalent of Wii Sports, I will find out today though. Also put Zombie U on my GF list. That seems to be a pretty good game. No desire to play SMB as it looks the same as the one on the Wii and the rest of the games are basically ports that I played last year so, no interest.

Next month should be really good though. Lego City Undercover.

Alrighty, gonna go give it a shot now.

Found the first thing I do not like about the Wii U; all the demos have limits. I don't mean time limits and then it reverts back to the main screen so you can play again, I mean a usage limit! For example, downloaded Sonic Racing demo and before I played, a screen popped up to let me know that I have 15 times to play left. Apparently, this is normal on the WU and the publishers/devs are the ones who get to set the limit. Of course, I do not blame the pubdevs because it is Nintendo's fault for having the option in the first place.

Speaking of demo's, N's works like the PS3's system. You download the file and then install it. This is not a bad thing because being a PC gamer I got used to it. However, I still like the way MS does it better. Download and play. One would have thought this is the way the WU would have worked, but apparently easy and consumer friendly are starting to be bad words in the gaming universe.

That is just a personal preference though and not really a big deal. The usage limit on the demos though, suck balls!
