i almost shit my pants when i noticed their article.
dagbladet is one of norways biggest newspapers etc etc.
    valve has already been notified.
dagbladet precents a big article on their impressions on the half life 2 beta that they downloaded, seriously, how dumb are they ?
    - a stolen version of the game
    - distributed illegal
    - its a beta as well.

what sort of actions should valve take upon dagbladet ?

first of all i would like to state that this was done in a rush.
i have a big test tomorrow so i dont have time to translate every sentence, but with this translation you will understand the essence of their review.
sorry about my shitty english its been like 3 years since i had english at school and i havent used it for ages.

You won`t believe your eyes. Dagbladet.no has tested the half life 2 beta version.

While you are waiting for the complete version I can only give you my word, half life 2 will actually be as great as everyone claim it to be. Well, that’s the impression i`m stuck with after playing around with the playable beta version that has been flowing around the net the last few days. The most important thing to remember, this is absolutely, in no way, a finished version of the game. It might be looked at as a strongly amputated technical demonstrated, where you in glimpses can see the greatness of the game.

When valve suffered an attack by an hacker on one of their machines, the hacker got off with the source code to half life 2, and later on it was told he also had a early build of the game, slowly this version started sirculating on the net, until it completely exploded (meaning it was all over the place)

Now the hunt for half life 2 is easy to se on the net, on most search engines you are garantued to find half life 2 as one of the last searc-words.
The beta version itself is about 1,4gb, and if you think you don’t have to buy the game if you get your hands on this beta version you are wrong.

There are almost no cut-scenes, no action, almost nothing is put together, and its crawling with so called bugs (well, the game itself has bugs, but when I say bugs now I mean glitches in the program\game) (desperate attempt from an norwegian writer trying to be funny)

Still, with some patience and curiosity, you can get trough some of the levels in the game, on some sort of adventurous journey.
(then he goes on with how beautiful he thinks the water, walls, floor, sand and buildings are)
the graphic in half life 2 is at a level I have never seen before in any pc-game.

On my journey troughout one of the levels, I got my hands on the gravitation gun we have seen in some of the E3 videos. At the e3 mess we saw clips where this rifle was used to grab obstacles, but the only thing I managed in the beta was to shove and pull obstacles.

With the gravitation gun I could play around with the physics engine ability to handle the game`s obstacles in the exact same way as they would in real life.
(jatta jatta, he goes on about how good the physics engine is)
every loose obstacle react if you bump into them, though in a real way , not in the same irritating way as in devestation. It feals right, and increases the dimension of reality in the game.

(then he goes on about all the weapons he got to test)

Amongst the levels i got to try there was a trainstation where uniformed guards patrolled.
They haven’t implanted any AI into every figure in the game, because when I attacked the guards on that level they didn’t try to defend themselves.

(then he goes on about one level where they did attack him, and how cool it was when he breached trough some sort of defence and that he was attacked by enemy forces, how some cruel enemys dug into the sand and jumped at him,etc etc.
“I was also attacked from the air, by enemy gunships”)

I also ran into the feared headcrabs, these little creatures that jumps on your face and turn you into a zombie! There will be several more enemies in the game when its completed, but when that is, we don’t know.

Vivendi universal, the publisher, has announced april 2004, though this has not been confirmed by valve. One thing`s for sure, because of the hacker they have to re-write big parts of the game.

A lot of things can be said about half life 2, and a lot more will be said, at this moment, every indication shows that what will be said, will be positive, in other words, you can all look forward to this game.

I'm certainly no legal expert, and I don't even know how to spell "law" in Norwegian, so I don't have a clue as to what Valve CAN do.

But, I don't see anything for them to get all that upset about. The article was positive and seems to be truthful, so (at least by US laws), Valve wouldn't have anywhere they could go with the paper.

As far as what I know, mere possession of this leaked data is not breaking any laws. Distributing it, on the other hand, can really get you in hot water (at least in the US)

And thanks for the translation, Syfer
