Hl2 Still stutters sound and graphics which is really annoying considering ive just upgraded to a BFG 6800 gt. My system should have been good enough b4 i got it shouldnt it? amd athlon 2800+ 512 ddr 333 120 hdd and a radeon 9800. My ingame settings are pretty much set to medium level and im playing it in a 1024 by 768 resolution. I love this game but things like this do spoil things a bit

Probably some leftovers from ati, try deleting everything from them and then delete the old registry settings with this. Then get the latest drivers from Nvidea for your 6800 and things should be better...

    If not, post again.

What have you tried to fix it?

Have you tried everything here? Guy seems to be as frustrated as they'll come, hehe. But yea, stuttering is fixed for most people now.

(Excuse me for my english, my hometown is Germany...ok .. )

hi, so i cant unterstand you because of your hardware. So do you have a BFG 6800 Ultra and 512 mb of ram ?

Sorry, but i think thats the fact, that you have only 512 Mb. Upgrade to 1 Gigabyte !!!

For example, I have an AMD 64 3200, 1 GB Corsair, and a Radeon 9800 XT.. After i installed the ati Catalyst 5.4,

i had to reinstall the driver , because of very dangerous stottering problems, and graphical problems. Then i installed t´he specfic driver of my developer, Sapphire, then it runs better, but not really good enough for me !! So i cleaned my Windows, with TWEAK XP PRO 4, you could download a trial version everywhere. There i have run the auto tune up, by setting all options to MAXIMUM. After that , a sysadmin told me that i must increase my virutal memory of the harddrive, where the game was installed . For example, i have 1 GB, so i increased to 3 GB of virtual memory. But i increased to 4 GB.... LOL. But i think 3 GB of virtual memory is enough.

AFTER THAT , i really really was SURPRISED !!! MY SETTINGS ARE ALL MAXIMUM, without REFLECTING ALL, ONLY WORLD, 1024x768, 6xAA, 16Xaniso .... and it runs PERFECT. REALLY FAST. SO i think you all must TRy this out !

P:S: Hey, I know that the BFG 6800 ULTRA is very very fast, 425 MHZ GRAPHIX and 1200 MHZ RAM ..., could this be ? Please tell me your experience of this card, because i`m thinking about buying an newer ones, such like the BFG..

leftovers?? sorry mate, but what the hell are you talking about? the game stuttered for almost everybody when it first came out, there is updates now that fix that problem. 512 mb of ram doesn't work well with half life 2 plain and simple, that's his bad.......I'm sure its not a "leftover driver" problem, the game wouldn't even run at all if it was using some ATI drivers with an nvidia card...the guy needs to beef up his comp. with some more memory, 512 doesn't cut it anymore PERIOD!

You need more than 512Mb of RAM due to the fact HL2 resides in more than that after 30mins gameplay. You will be thrashing the bejesus out of your HDD as the swapfile will be abused like a kiddie in MJ's neverland when precaching levels! IGB RAM is the norm according to Valve if you have texture details turned up to the max...

I have 1 gig of ram, the game ran fine when i got it, and now it stutters like mad. I have a defragged harddrive and have no spyware and no cpu load. Im at a partial loss. :bucky!:

Have you changed your drivers since installing the game, if so, it might be worth rolling back to the previous ones

I meant delete all you can find of ati on your hard drive. Uninstalling the driver sometimes just doesnt cut it, thats why suggested deleting the old registrysettings aswell. I thought i was clear enough on that one.

I've got almost the same specs as that guy and never had a single problem playing the game. I never had or heared about that problem, so i guessed it had something to do with his software.
