where are you from or live at?? im not sure what version of xp you have but.. it is Free language packs for xp that would put it in the tongue you need or speak im sure.. if you google it or go to ms site and search..

but id guess. it dont really matter what version you have you could upgrade to what you want or need.. tho american and euro versions are different.. euro versions i dont think come with ie or media player and some other things that are bloat in the american versions..

if any of the Linux type os's was ok for playing all of my pc games.. id drop windows like a hot rock.. but they are not gamers os's.. so for me they just plain suck.. hell its macs in the house now.. i could use them to surf with or what ever.. but what the hell do i need that for.. it cant run my games its nothing but junk for me..

as for xp pro sp2 and if you have good security.. well i still use ie6 my self.. all of the other junk browsers jam up when it wants to. they can have security problems too.. and not 1 other browser will work with out ie6 extensions period.. not ie7 or ie8 either.. other stuff might be more pretty or have tabs.. but i dont need no freaken tabs.. i keep my system lean and clean and updated and security scans etc.

i play games so i have extra powerful components and extra memory etc.. and when say my bud has troubles on his mac because he cant convert different videos or play them.. well he has to turn to me.. he and all the others have to run to windows when their other than windows pc's cant do certain things.. ya windows is more up keep or can be said less secure.. but they are 90% of the pc market for a reason and they can do all of the things play all of the things games music video what ever that all other os's cant.. so in some ways the extra work or up keep is worth it to be able to do anything needed when its needed.. in fact.. to just surf the net or edit video or run a server or xp any old 10 year p3 can do that.. you only need high end or new computer stuff for high res gaming period.. or maybe you want some hd home media system for large screen tv maybe.. but other than that the old p3 can do just about anything i can now other than play my games so.. heck i have a old p3 now with xp. so its not like i dont know what im talking about.. well its at my buds house now and runs his jet audio and is mostly a jukebox pc.. maybe its not the fastest pc.. but it blows my bud here old imacs out of the water.. i do like how he can hook up all 4 of his macs to the router etc. and they all auto can talk to or share with eachother.. i cant just do that with my windows pc's or i dont know how or with out a lot of crap.. be nice if i could just share between them with out problems like he can.. is about all i really like about them..

my bud here we split the rent etc.. he is a mac hippie nerd. and will put down windows all day long.. ya he is maybe more secure and dont have to run virus scans what ever.. but my pc's are way more powerful and my pc's can do lots of stuff his macs can not ever do.. heck i rarely ever mess with the macs.. but if he has troubled with some codecs or something. and needs to convert something-- i have to google for him and find him programs that will work on his macs to do what he needs.. and even then it could be as simple as just manually typing in or changing video file type name on the end like say adding .avi or .wmv etc etc etc.. ha ha and im retarded.. so i see it as just guff and talk. and if them said Linux os's was so great well they would be windows and or be 90% of the entire computer market.. but they are not.. and folks mostly talk out of their heads.. but for simple office type stuff well.. macs are great for that.. but its a whole other and very large world out there.. and windows pc's can survive and eat the others.. its just as simple as that.. so

heck i was going to give ubuntu a try.. but then i seen its not a gamer. or id have to try some other os and add lil silly girl named programs like jelly or toast or what ever. and virtual this or that and maybe be able to play some games.. well.. its not worth it for me to even try or to learn any limited stuff like that.. ill stick with windows and my updates and or scans each month and can do anything on earth needed to be done on a pc.. i dont have any office stuff on my computers.. but if needed id download open office.. i dont use wmp. i use mpc and jetaudio.. its no better sounding music player on this earth better than jetaudio.. its a video player too. can burn and convert music and stuff too. and to mp3's if you buy the pro version which i have.

it jet audio updates free for life. but it will bump your play lists if you use it as main player.. so i just use jet to play my mp3 music library and use mpc for everything else playing my videos etc.. i can get codecs if needed for say mp4 video if needed but i dont make them or need or download them.. if i dont make them and dont play on mpc well adobe flash more than likely will so. or i can install real or quicktime alternatives.. or i dont need to view it. but it is players to play anything if needed.. i only need the 2 players.. i buy some programs and i have free programs too.. i will not buy anything that has to be more money a year later.. like say a norton suite etc.. buy it and then pay each year or it will not update anymore.. they can keep it.

do what you think is best for your needs.. im not sure how to help.. i live here. i have to pay full price for what i need and use. and expect it to do what i need when i need it.. as you said if you play games.. well you need windows.. if you do not play on line or mp games.. you dont have to upgrade or much worry about security either.. disconnect your old xp system from the net and play offline.. use another pc with Linux stuff to surf the net with etc..

dag gone right.. id love if windows was mac osx what ever and could play all of my games.. but its not and it cant.. and im happy enough and live with it..

If you don't live in the UK, France or Germany I'm sure you can still order stuff from one of there online stores.

I ordered the upgrade but here's the good part. You don't order the 32-bit or the 64-bit version, it comes with both. And if you have WinXP and you want to upgrade then you have to do a fresh install. And if you have Vista 32-bit and you want to go 64-bit then you have to do a fresh install. You don't have to just upgrade, you just need a valid Windows XP or Vista Disc for verification purposes.

im still debating on if i want to use 32 or 64bit.. best i remember reading ms did a better job updating drivers etc and was more programs that worked with 64bit vista than was for 32bit vista.. so im leaning 64bit w7 and can use more memory etc.. faster etc etc etc. but im not sure thats true.. im still waiting for some of my vista and beta w7 buds to post on the topic..

cool.. so if i understand you right.. when i go to install.. i guess i can use my extra hdd or nuke the os on the hdd im using now.. i guess put the w7 disc in the opt drive and it will ask me to put my xp disc in.. verify maybe i will have to put the code in.. then put the w7 disc back in and good to go with w7 install.. sweet if so or something like that..

my first pc build i was running 98 and upgraded to xp. i think i put the xp disc in it installed over 98 what ever im not sure how that works exactly.. its been so long now.. i cant remember..

i was not sure if i install w7 over the xp now.. or had to do like a fresh xp install and then w7 or what.. im still a lil confused on that.. but the more easy the better.. its said w7 is a sweet os.. the betas are said better than vista ever was.. hmm i was thinking maybe a dual boot system to.. maybe xp on 1 drive and w7 on another. maybe they could share a data storage drive??. i could change up if need be and being hp and i dont think my cpu can do virtual xp or amd-v im not sure if my cpu can do it or not- so is why i was not so worried about not getting w7 pro- i was reading some on it.. but i really dont need it.. from what i understand.. most any game that runs on xp will run on vista and or w7 so. and thats not virtual either.. or is what my buds who game say and have vista or w7 betas any way..

i dont have any old programs that dont work with vista other than my stand alone zdsoft game recorder 2.0.1.0.. but the new zdsoft 3. do all desk top and game recorder does work in vista.. buts its not as good a game recorder or have the option i have with 2.0.1.0.. but i do have a full latest version of fraps and it works with vista 32 and 64bit.. and oh ya.. my free [any video converter] dont work with vista either or maybe it was will not work with 64bit os's.. but ive found other free programs that do.. i just hope they convert movies that play back as lovely as avc does [best ive seen yet]. or i will not be happy at all with w7.. all i do is game and make movies.. id rather toss it all out into the yard if i cant do either so.. i have nothing else i care or worry about as far as programs go.. some old games might not work.. but i dont have to play them either.. so..

The 64-bit versions rule, I've tried them all (XP, Vista and Win 7 Beta) as well as the 32-bit versions.

Yes, that is how you'll do a fresh install.

If you want Windows 7 with a Windows XP compatibility mode then you need to buy the Professional upgrade for $99 as I did

well i dont need xp mode. and ive never had a dual boot system either. and dont need that either.. i was more thinking out loud is all.. i guess dual boot is an option if some folks just have to use xp in the future.. i think i can live with out it tho..

ezeht, I know your circumstances are very bad, but I was merely speaking in general. Hence the advice to do a fresh install.
And let's not forget that security updates won't stop yet, so even with XP we can enjoy Update Tuesday. So I will not change yet, I rather save the money cause I don't feel forced to switch. So I won't toss the money away as long as my Windows programs still work on XP sp2. I am a student myself, so not super rich or whatever.

I don't know if it makes you feel better, but: I can imagine you would like to kick those Republicans' asses. Because so do I

there is some misunderstanding between us here I think.

As a Dutchman, I automatically interpreted "liberalism" as classical liberalism (which is usual at this side of the ocean). A way of thinking that says that the government shouldn't take care of the people and keep the poor poor. Or for example think it is okay that medicine is only in reach of those who can afford it.
Thus the right-winged political stuff, which won't be helping you either. But you say that you officially have the right to get support (money for medicine etc.) but don't get it for some reason. It is just a suggestion, but maybe the municipal authorities of your town should be made (more) aware of the fact that their social support system does not work properly. Maybe you should try to contact them and explain your case to them.

Just an attempt to help you a bit by the way, I hope you don't take it badly
