The Bigs

This is not really a review of the game as I don't have it. This is a review of the demo on the 360.

Baseball games really bore the shit out of me! Really! There is just nothing to them. Hit the ball and try not to get out then go to the outfield and try and get the other team out. Rinse and repeat. Boring. The ones that do something different interest me. The Bigs is one of them. There was another but, I have no idea what the hell it was. All I can remember was gettting to beat the hell out of the ppl on base. All kindsa fun! The Bigs kinda brings that back.

Sure, The Bigs looks like your standard fare baseball game but, it is not! There is sooo much more to it and I want it! As I am not a big fan of baseball or baseball games, I am not up on how they look. However, I think The Bigs does a great job graphically on the 360. There are times I can't hear who is up to bat. (damn kids

) All I have to do is read the name on the jersey to know who it is. If I knew jack squat about baseball, I could tell by the face as to who they are because they are really nicely rendered but, I don't so screw it. I can't tell you if the stadiums are true to life as there is only one in the demo and I don't know squat diddly piss about what Detroit's field looks like. All I know is that is pretty and I am guessing it is damn close to the real thing. (even if it's not, still pretty)

I am not really going to say much about the sound because, let's face it, it is a baseball game and they all sound the same! Sure the music is fitting up until you play but other than that, ball hitting the bat, roar of the crowd, etc...

What kept me coming back to the demo was the gameplay! I swear! I don't know what it is but, damn! I just can't wait to play it again. Could be the fact that I don't have a instruction booklet to tell me how to play or a tutorial to walk me through a lot of the more complex moves! Still, the game is sweet! Everyone knows how baseball works so, I am not going to go through the standard crap gameplay stuff. I will summarize: When you are batting, A is the contact button, B is the power, X is the bunt and Y does squat! Pitching: Every button does a different pitch. A is the fastball, B is the slider, etc.... While pitching, there is a need to hold it down to throw the perfect pitch. (I am guessing this makes it a much better pitch and more accurate) If you are to strike someone out, you get points! This is a good thing as the points give you turbo! Speaking of turbo, it is why I love this game! Turbo has soooo many applications and is what makes The Bigs different from any other baseball game. When you are pitching and you have enough points to use turbo, the screen turns black and white for you to throw a nasty pitch. It is just great. As it is the demo, I have no idea exactly what it does but damn, it looks pretty. Not to mention it is hard to hit!

Turbo has a different affect when you are in the outfield. Using the turbo (right trigger) will make them run faster and I am guessing do some nifty little tricks I.E. jumping off the wall. If you use it at the right time, you can throw the ball so fast it looks like it is on fire! This will also get it from center field to home plate in less than a second! Which brings another cool point. When you use turbo to throw to, ohh lets say home base, a new screen will come up. Pressing the A button repeatedly will decide whether or not the runner slams the catcher or the catcher runs over the runner. The same can be said about sliding into second but, I am not entirely sure how this works.

Once you receive 100k in points, you have the option of a big hit or pitch. As far as I can tell, this is not a big deal for the pitcher. However, when you activate this for the batter, when and if you hit it, it goes out of the park and hits some kinda billboard. It really is spectacular!

I could go on but, I wanna eat so, basically all you need to know is this is not your average baseball game and that it brings something new to the table! If you don't like your run of the mill bball games, you sure as hell might like this one!

Based on the demo alone, I give it a 9.0 out of 10 as it makes baseball fun
