I know this is a review forum but, I am the king of the forums so, I am going to post this here cause I wanna! I am sure you will like it
![]() While I was at EA for the Burnout Paradise Community day, we had a little surprise! We got some hands on time with the 360 game Army of Two and this will be a preview of the game of sorts. Unlike some of my colleagues, I have never had a chance to test out the game before. Which is apparently a good thing as some of them told me that a few months ago, the game was completely different than the build we played Friday. This is a good thing! Ok, onto the game. When we walked into the room, there were five game stations set up, I think. The two on the far side were for the co-op campaign play. The three on the other were for the co-op versus play. As we didn't really spend a lot of time playing, I didn't get a chance to play the co-op versus mode. I know that kinda sucks but, when you have 15 people trying to play on five stations, someone is going to miss out. However, I was very content playing the campaign mode and this is the part I will be focusing on for obvious reasons. When I first sat down to play, I didn't ask questions nor did I talk to my partner or the dev and they were two feet away from me. This is not a good thing to do as the game is really made for co-op. So, we start on one of the later levels and we proceed to walk up a little hill to what seems to be a fortress. Not knowing the game or how it is played, we just went guns a blazing into the base. Not a good idea as there was a turret that pretty much killed us upon entering. Second try. We try to be a little more sneaky. I took the right side and my partner took the left. Turret starts firing and I run like crazy to the building to the right as my partner goes left. Next thing I know, partner is dead and I hear the dev telling me that I have to go heal him. I turn around and run to him but, not knowing how to heal, I hit the trigger and killed him then the turret gun pounded me. Third try. At this point the dev points out that this is a co-op game and I should not be killing my partner. Funny guy! He also explains that the meter in the middle top of the screen is an agro meter. What this does is lets one of take the fire so the other can make his way around without getting shot. Let's say I run in and just start shooting, every enemy and turret directs their fire at me thus letting my partner sneak around. We were also introduced to sliding into cover. This is done by hitting the Y button. This allows you to slide behind cover and then you can blind fire. Which, by the way, came in real handy. As the dev is explaining these two points, my partner was asking me if I have played a co-op game before. Smart ass! Now we have pertinent information that will help us. We go back up to the base, I slide into cover and start blasting! About four enemies and the turret were all focused on me as my partner snuck around the buildings and blew up the turret. I get out from behind cover and start blasting some baddies but, I was not paying attention to where my partner was and shot him some more. Doing good so far eh? After I get yelled at, again, we proceed further into the level. The dev tells us that we can use the left bumper button and this will show us basically where we are supposed to be going. Nifty little gadget when you are lost! We followed the arrows to a person that is hurt on the roof of a building. After his little speech, all kindsa enimies showed up to kick our ass! I jumped into a turret and shot some baddies but, again, forgot to keep track of my partner. Needless to say, he died and I had to go heal him. I run over to him and shot him. Then was killed. I did not know the heal option was on the pad. After this, I let someone else have a turn while I talked to the dev for a little bit. As I am watching and yapping, I noticed the guys playing had the option to start from a checkpoint. Which was good for them as we were told this wasn't the easiest place to start. You can also shop at this time. We had no money to buy anything but, it is a nice option. You can buy anything from armor to weapons. I could'nt tell you exactly what is in the store as we were advised not to buy anything cause we had no money. I suppose I should let you know that you receive money from completing objectives and I am sure there are other ways but, we were not told. I suppose I could have asked but, I am pretty shy. Anyway, back to the gameplay. After the two completed guarding the wounded guy from hordes of enemies, it was onto the next level. I know this sounds bad but, I can't remember the first part of the level cause I wasn't playing. When I did start paying attention, the two were at a wall they had to get over and of course there were bad guys on the other side. This is what happened. One guy goes to the wall and hits the A button. This tells your partner you are going to help him over. One of you kinda bends down and clutches your hands together whilst the other one puts his foot in and you then lift him over the wall. They did this without a problem! However, once on the wall, he proceeded to jump off the other side shooting bad guys leaving his partner stranded. This is when I popped back on. I lifted my partner up but this time, the dev told me that you can raise and lower your parter while you are like that. So, I raised him up and down to shoot and avoid the bad guys. After taking out those two, he had to reach down and help me over the wall. Now we are both standing on the wall and the dev tells me another little tid bit. There is an abandonded truck just ahead of us. Apparently, you can shoot the door off and use it as a sheild! That's what I did! Once you pick up the shield, you hold it as your partner files behind you and shoots! Good stuff! After killing the bad guys and the turret, I had to share again. Dammit! I am now watching as these two have to make their way though an enclosed space. They are both ducking for cover and firing and as soon as they get to the opening to go out, both of them blew up! On thier second try, we learned a couple new things. One being that if you use the left bumper that shows you where to go, it will also show hidden mines. This was some helpful info! The second thing being, when your partner is hurt and awaiting you to heal him, you can shoot! Which is just awesome! On their second attemp through, one of them was wounded and was awaiting the other to come heal him. The wounded guy was in the line of fire and instead of healing him right there, you can drag his ass to safety all the while, he can fire!! This was just all kindsa fun to watch. As I am writing this, I noticed I forgot to mention that you do have a melee button. Depending on how close you are, your dude will do different things like headbutt or kick and apparently many more. This was about the time we were leaving though and I didn't get to see all the nifty melee animations. However, there is one more thing I want to mention. As there are two of you, you can high five and such. The dev told them if they get close to each other and hit the melee button, they would high five. One of them walked up to the other and hit the melee button. Did a high five happen??? Nooooo! He bitch slapped the boy! I almost peed myself with laughter! Apparently, if you want to high five, both of you need to hit the button at the same time! Personally, I am really looking forward to Army of Two. Co-op games are few and far between. Good ones anyway. Army of Two, from what I have seen, seems to have a lot of variety and a sense of humor, which I love. In what other game can you bitch slap your partner just for the hell of it??? Army of Two is due out in March and as soon as I get my grubby paws on it, I will have a review for ya. Until then, you will just have to keep reading this or wait for a demo which I am sure will be coming.
