To Gamers,
Review, review, review where to start. Theres just so much that could be said. The good, the bad, the ups, the downs, the changes, the optimism, the dissapointments, the struggles, the excitement, the truths, the lies, and the addiction. That’s a mouthfull if I ever wrote one. For those of you who don’t know me, ive been playing this game for awhile and when I write something like this I tend to be thorough. Some may classify it as longwinded or even boring. But (insert bad word here) them. I hope you’ll spend the time to read this until the end. I promise to make it interesting.
This is like the perfect quick start PvP game. Its free first of all. But ahs a cash store for thos of who dont mind spending a little change. I remember when I first started this game. I better it wasn’t that long ago. Although it feels like forever. All the hours I have logged have probably shortened my life expectancy by a couple months. But look who im talking to. So where was I going with this before I started to ramble. The perfect quick start game. When I started it took a really long time to level up. How long is really long? Spending countless hours doing quests, spending more money in the diamond store than id like to admit, growing mushrooms nightly until level 70, and walking more carts than any one man should ever have to walk, I managed to hit the level 90 mark in a mere 7 months. Or was it eight? So right about now your saying to yourself. Alright, this guy is nutz, eight months is not quick. But let me finish. Through the miracle of patience and change that level 90 mark can now be achieved in about a month. Can be a lot less if you’re a hardcore gamer. And hey level 90 is nothing to laugh at, unless you’re a rebirth.
So what does this game actually hold in store for you. PvP, questing, instances, events , weapon and armor crafting, and rebirth. Same stuff as the other RPG’s right? So what makes this game different? There are two more things that make this game worthwhile. One is the chance to give your input into a game still under development. But the important one is the community. Besides these are the people your going to play with, you should get along with them right. I can honestly say in my entire time I have not had made one enemy. There have been a couple individuals who like to start trouble. But they really weren’t that bad of people if you spent the time to know them. The high level gamers are really nice and willing to help new players. Players in the game hold weekly (sometimes more than once) games and give out diamond store items to other players. The GM’s don’t sponsor these games. The players do. The games are usually very easy and the rewards are great.
Questing is pretty easy in this game. As in any mmorpg you walk to npc’s and collect your quests. I haven’t played many rpg’s like this the last one was Diablo2 and then the LoD expansion. But we couldn’t just open the log and autorun to the quest we wanted. So I really like that feature in SoL. Almost all quests can be completed without the help of a party. Except for the major bosses, they require the helping hand of a higher level or a group. Along with the in-game Bot you can now multi-task at the office and get those boring quests out of the way with a few simple clicks. Since the Bot is instituted by the developers there’s no fear of getting your account banned for it.
Want to powerlevel? Who doesn’t? Well they got the place for you. Actually they have three. First in your home city you have an instance named Zombie Minehole. Talk a high level character into walking you through there and your bound to see your experience bar fill up more than once. The second is Skvala. Same idea as Zombie, different map and designed for level 75 and up. Ill get to the third on later.
Some of the events are cool and some are rather boring but they all serve the purpose of getting items, experience and to pass the time. There are nine events that happen right now in SoL, but I’m going to say there are ten., since I’m considering an event to be a timed/dated activity with good rewards. Frontline Freight (walking carts), growing mushrooms, Defending the Homeland, the Arena, Turtle Beach, Sparkling Labyrinth, the Magic Cube, Azreal, Castle Siege, and Boss kills. I consider boss killing an event in this review since bosses only respawn again four hours after you kill them. And they give the best rewards. since this is a PvP game at heart I’m only going to focus on the siege and the arena. In castle siege event guilds of the same camp compete in battles to take over a map and kill a king that gives you nightly rewards. In the arena you can battle opposing camp to earn honor points and merits that can be used in the honor store to purchase items to enhance your equipment. If you are the last man standing after the half hour battle you get the opportunity to kill a boss for huge honor points and special mounts.
PvP is mostly based on your equipment in this game. Some classes have advantages over others. But with the proper equipment you can become almost invincible. There are two types of PvP in SoL. The first one is fighting opposing camp to gain honor and merits. The world of Agnes is made up of two camps, Chaos and Union. Each camp has two races., Orc and Dwarf for Chaos and Human and Elf for Union. If you kill the other camp you gain honorary titles and currency for the honor store. The second type of PvP is a little different. There is no honor in killing anyone in this type. By drinking a potion called Homicidal Flavorant you then become the enemy of the entire world. You can kill opposing camp as well as your own. What’s the benefit of this? If you kill while flaved your prey will drop items from their pack or even their person. Don’t worry though. By carrying a stunt doll in your backpack it will protect you from dropping anything equipped. And for those of you who think it will be fun to just rape and pillage. Keep in mind there are consequences for killing with flave. Don’t acquire to much sinn or your own death could be very expensive.
The armor and weapon system is based mostly on crafting. You collect material and gold from killed mobs, mines, and trees located on each map. You then refine the materials into useable stuff for crafting. The stats you get on crafted equipment is all random. So you could get something ok to uber stats on any crafted item. As you refine the material you collect you also build skill points. The higher your skill point the better raw material you can collect. Remember that third instance I mentioned earlier? There is also a minefield map. In this field you can collect some of the best raw materials in the game. And the mobs give great experience. You may also remember that nifty in-game Bot. well when your autokilling with the Bot you can also set it to collect raw materials for you.
Ever reach the highest possible level in the game your playing but don’t really want to give it up. It starts to get a little boring running around with nothing to do. Well Rebirth changes everything. When you reach level 90 you can rebirth back to level sixty. You keep higher level stats than an normal level sixty but can wear all previously crafted equipment. So what’s the benefit of Rebirth. New Rebirth specific equipment and new skills to raise your damage and defense. And don’t think you’ll be making it back to level ninety anytime soon. If you want to get back on the top its going to take a little longer this time.
Finally you cant have a review without mentioning some things that could use improvement. The customer service could be a little better and GM’s should be more readily available. The focus groups that were in place many months ago should be brought back. They were very informative and helpful for coming up with new ideas and identifying problems. The ppc version was suspended which is a big turn-off for a lot of gamers. Hopefully suspended means just that and comes back in the future.
